about us

Where’s that Deerhead? Cassettes has come so far in the last almost 4 years. It really just started as me (Greg) wanting to put out the A Quiet Night... for a Kidnapping demo cassette (which was a split release with Ohnono! Records).

After that things laid stagnant for about a year. At which time I had befriended Evan from Make Me through BMX (actually a pretty amusing story). We started talking about music and were on the exact same page 100%. Then he told me about his band Make Me and I fell in love with them right away. We got to talking and I told them I would like to put out a cassette version of their demo and so the ball started rolling again. I got in touch with Michele (of Raein, La Quiete and Candymal Design) to do the artwork which is so beautiful and thank you Michele. We had it silk screened by Nick of Daygristle and thanks to you too! The final product was beautiful and we were home duplicating at this time. Somewhere in here Nick join with me to run the label with me. I asked him one day because he is so rad and so motivated. So we join forces and got the Make Me cassette out to the world.

After this we started working with Robert from Zann working towards a discography cassette (which was also home duplicated). Next was Robert of Kobra Khan and working towards a retrospective cassette. This took quite sometime to get out but by the time we did we had start going to the Great American Tape Co for our duplicating and cassette manufacturing which we are still doing all of our business with. During this time we had also been speaking regularly with Alex for Kidcrash and working toward a Kidcrash release which was also home duplicated. After the Kidcrash we started thinking of working with local bands as well. We did the Barrier demo which was the last to be home duplicated.

This is how it started and we have been working diligently towards maintaining this. Nick and I now live together and have our office space set up and we have everything set up for doing our silk screening at home as well. We are a little unorganized but hey we are DIY entrepreneurs and can only do so much to keep this organized. It is overall a great and productive environment.

Working together to keep the cassette culture alive and as punk / DIY as possible! we love what we do! xoxoxoxox
